Yangshuo is located in south of Guilin in China and is under the jurisdiction of the city of Guilin ,which is the main transport hub for this area in China. The unique karsts physiognomy breeds the special landscape of Yangshuo. There are more than 20 thousand strange peaks dotted, 16 rivers winding through, over 110 scene sites scattered. It has been praised as “the most beautiful scenery in Guilin”. The 56 kilometers of Li River traverses Yangshuo, with strange peaks standing on both banks, lush bamboos swaying in breeze, which is one of the most beautiful parts in Yangshuo. The cruise from Li River to Yang shuo is very popular with tourists. The most notable scenic spots of Guilin are in Yangshuo, such as Nine-Horse Painted Hill, Lotus Cave, Young Scholar Hill, Snow Lion Ridge, the Big Banyan Tree, Moon Hill, and Dragon River.
Moreover, many consider the land scope of the plains and the villages to be like a beautiful picturesque poem. Amongst the mountains and waters are old buildings and old bridges that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Yangshuo. Just by observing these, one can learn much about Yangshuo’s history. Yangshuo has a long history of 1400 years in which the people have created their own culture, such as long drum dance, song gathering Cai Diao opera, dragon and lion dance, the natural scenery there are gardens relics and sites in the history, ancient bridge and other architectures and stone carvings.
Yangshuo County covers an area of 1, 428 square km and has 20,000 hectares of land used for agricultural cultivation. It has a population about 300,000, making up of different ethnic groups such as Han, Zhuang, Yao, Hui, etc. The weather in Yangshuo is subtropical, with sufficient rainfall, sunlight, and heat around the whole year. On average each year the temperature is 19 centigrade, the amount of sunlight is 1,465 hours, the rainfall is 1,640mm. There are about 300 days per year without frost. In general, the weather is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter, so you will feel very comfortable in any reason in Yangshuo.
Over the years, in fact since the early 80’s Yangshuo was a popular travel destination for mostly backpackers. One could say the backpackers paved the way for the organized tour groups that visit Yangshuo nowadays too. But even though Yangshuo has developed and West Street is no longer a dirt street but a buzzing street with cafe’s bars and souvenir shops, it is still surprisingly local in feel. Being famous for its “green mountains, limpid waters, strange peaks and wonderful caves”, Yangshuo has attracted nearly 20 million tourists from domestic and overseas since 1978, including more than 150 monarchs from abroad.
